RIDE INFORMATION
The community of North Fork is sponsoring
the 16th
Grizzly Century ride in order
to promote the Sierra Vista National Scenic
Byway and
to encourage the enjoyment of our treasured resources.
Come and spend the day delighting in scenic vistas from
the unique vantage point that only a cyclist can claim.
"Profits" earned go toward promotion and improvement of
the Scenic Byway and to town restoration projects for
our mountain community.
WHEN: Saturday, October 4th,
2008. 7:00 am - 5:30 pm.
WHERE: North Fork, California "The exact center of

that the staging area is actually up the hill to the
left from the Map Quest star.

We're 20 Miles due south
of Yosemite National Park.
CARPOOL!!
Need a ride or have space to
offer? Go to the "Grizzly Carpool google
group" and see
what's available. We're not taking any responsibility
for anything you find on the site, though. You'll have
to become a member if you aren't already.
RAFFLE!!
We're
having another raffle this year to help support our
community activities. The grand prize will be a Diamondback
Viper BMX Bike. There will be other items like a $200
helmet, weekend packages at area resorts, and other bike
stuff.
Tickets are $5 each. You can purchase them before the race
or at the door.
ROUTE DESCRIPTIONS
Route Map
THE GRIZ
(100 miles)
Over 10,000 foot elevation
gain. Pass Mile High Vista, Jackass Rock, Arch Rock, the
red fir forests of Cold Springs Summit, speedily descend
to Bass Lake and back to North Fork.
THE METRIC
CENTURY (100k = 63
miles) A 5,000 foot
elevation gain. North Fork to Mile High Vista and back.
Tremendous views of conifer forests, rock formations, and
the high Sierra.
LOOP THE LAKE
(24 miles)
A 1,000 foot elevation gain
around Bass lake, the Pines Resort. Beautiful pines and
quiet roads. Then return to the staging area along county
highway 274.
THE DOUBLE TAKE
is an option and an addition
to the 2008 Grizzly Century. It is intended to for the full
century riders but may be undertaken by any rider. NOT
RECOMMENDED FOR THE NOVICE ! The ride option starts at the
junction of Road 274 and the Beasore Road. You will climb
4,000’ in 12 miles to Cold Springs Summit [7,308’], turn
around and descend to the starting point. The climb takes
about 2.5 hours for an average rider and descent about 30
minutes. You must make your way to the starting point on
your own and then back to staging at the North Fork School;
there is limited parking at the starting point if you are
coming from the Metric Century or Loop the Lake ride and it
is about 12 miles from staging to the starting point. If
you attempt this option and are gently urged to abandon the
climb, due to time constraints, please comply, train
throughout the year and try again the next year. Send feed

closes at 5:30 P.M. For everyone's safety,
please
observe this time. Our SAGs
will assist you in getting back to the staging area. Your
cooperation is appreciated. Showers are available.
